FROM THE TIGRIS TO THE THAMES by LINDA DANGOOR. A beautifully illustrated memoir blended with a cookbook. Linda encompasses the recipes of her birthplace Iraq, London, Ibiza and Paris. She was unhappy to leave Iraq and has ever since felt “rootless” trying hard to be part of a new country. At first when she came to England in the Swinging 60s, she loved everything but after a while it felt like exile-loss of Arabic language and culture and it was the same in Paris. Through cooking dishes that reminded her of home she kept her roots alive. In this book she interweaves recipes from her four dwelling places with personal stories of home and belonging. Her ingredients are notable including mint, pomegranate molasses and sweet sour flavours.
